Recognizes PS4 Controller, but does not do the keyboard

I can get it to recognize the PS4 controller, but I can't seem to get it to trigger any simple keyboard command. I have a text editor open as a test and it should print out the letter z when I hit a button on the keyboard but nothing seems to happen? (Correction I see it highlight blue in the window when I press the button but it doesn't seem to emulate the keyboard commands?)

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
