How to enable joystick mapper

I have mapped some controls in joystick mapper to my NeoGeoX stick. How do I then enable it to work? Do I need to close the app, or keep it running? If I move the joystick left here, for example, then the cursor does not move like it should.

Edit: Just realised that you have to tick "use this preset"! Seems to be working now.
